I purchased this adapter to install an aftermarket radio into my 2004 GMC Envoy. It was very easy to install and works as described. The “chime” that it replaces the factory chime with is a bit awkward sounding at first, but it isn’t all that bad. Just incase you’re not entirely sure what this does… In some vehicles (I’m not sure exactly which ones so you’ll have to do your own research), the factory installed radios control various other functions such as the chimes. In my 2004 Envoy, the radio also stays on after you turn off the truck until you open a door. This feature and the chimes are lost if you remove the factory radio without using the GMOS-01 adapter. Just make sure it functions properly BEFORE you button everything up! I received a faulty unit the first time around and had to wait for a couple of days to get a new one. If your chimes don’t work (the unit’s default volume is loud enough) or if the radio stays on after you open your door, then it’s a bad unit. OH, and don’t forget to buy an antenna adapter as well if you’re installing into a newer GM! They use a mini antenna connection that you have to convert into the larger type that aftermarket radios use. Amazon sells the adapter for about ten bucks or so.

Beware, this product does not work if you have Bose or an Amplified System. I have a Chevy Silverado 3500 w/Bose (No Ontar) and this product wasn’t compatible. If you’re not sure before purchasing, check the “Service Parts Identification” in your glove box. If “UQ7″ is listed, this product will not fit. You will need the GMOS-04 Class II. If you need help deciding which interface will fit your vehicle you can call Axxess/Metra Tech Support directly at (800) 253-8324. *Also note: This interface will also work in vehicles that are not equipped with Onstar.

This module is a must have, if you want to keep your existing door chime/on-star audio, when replacing the stock radio with a after market receiver. (As I did in our 2005 Chevy Trailblazer) The directions were clear, and easy to follow. |
